Interdisciplinary Programmes

Interdisciplinary (INCO) courses are taught by staff from a number of different departments who come together around a common area of academic interest, expertise and enthusiasm. Since they began at the University of Canterbury in 1961, INCO courses have been a vehicle for academic innovation, spawning a range of new centres and departments including Gender Studies, Theatre and Film Studies and Antarctic Studies.

 

INCO courses offer students exposure to the theoretical perspectives and teaching methods of lecturers from disciplines beyond those in which they normally study. Where possible, courses adopt participatory approaches to teaching, research and assessment.
